Portimão, gateway to the caves
Portimão sits on the Arade river, between the beaches of Praia da Rocha and Alvor and the cave coast of Lagoa. Boats leave from the riverside quay in town and from Portimão Marina at Praia da Rocha.
From here it is a short run east to Benagil cave, Praia da Marinha and Carvoeiro, or west to Alvor and the grottos of Lagos.
